Mid Term

What I’ve learned this semester is to start with basic shapes and lines and to avoid out lines. For example when starting off with basic lines, such as the spine and the way it curves back and forth. Then moving into an egg shape for the rib cage. I’ve learned to look for key points of lines and bumps to indicate where things are. I have also learned some of the measurements of how far the rib cage is away from the hips using triangles.

I feel that my strengths of my manikin are very limited. I feel that I have some of the muscles accurate and I have learned to try to use thinner piece of clay for the muscles. I have learned to try to be a bit more patient with it but I still find it difficult to do so. My weaknesses of my manikin are trying to figure out how all the pieces fit together. I feel that because I cannot fully grasp that concept my muscle pieces do not look accurate. Also I sometimes still have issues keeping the clay thin but sometimes it causes a problem.

I feel that some of my strengths in my drawings come from the longer poses. In the longer poses I have most time to sit and analyze the lines then be able to mark them more accurately. My weaknesses in my drawings are the quick drawings for the most part. I can’t seem to get the lines correct when having to move at a fast pace. I also seem to erase a lot and I want to be able to do less erasing of mistakes and make more exact marks.

By the end of the semester there are a few things I would like to improve on. First, I would like to get better at all the muscles and shapes of those muscles we have learned. Sometimes I feel we move to fast in to the next thing where I feel I don’t get enough time to practice what we have learned. Second I would also like to learn how to improve on fore shortening. Fore shortening is difficult and I would like to learn a few techniques that would help better my understanding and accuracy on how to fore shorten the figure.
