Final

I feel that I have grown throughout the semester as well as my strengths. I still feel that my strengths lye in the longer poses compared to the shorter poses but I feel that my line control has improved greatly for each of these. I feel through out this semester my strongest drawing came from drawing the feet. I was able to work out the bones on the feet better then any part of the body. I feel this is because I could see and understand the foot more.

I feel that I still have weaknesses when it comes to life drawing and the manikin. The first thing being that I can still be very impatient and want to go quickly. I also still need practice on proportions, I feel that I am getting much better then at the beginning of the semester but there are still some things I need to practice on, which include the skull and the face. I feel that as a class we did not get enough time to practice and work on the skull and face, which I was looking forward to in the life drawing class. When it comes to my manikin I feel I still have some trouble seeing how things are put together but feel I am getting better at it after redoing some of the muscles over again.

I have learned many things throughout the semester in life drawing. The first thing I have learned is to slow down more and look at what I’m drawing and building my manikin. Another thing I’ve learned is to have a better line control. I have also learned how to work from the inside out and to deal with shapes more than the actual object, which I feel works for me. My manikin was a major issue for me throughout semester but I feel that redoing the thighs a couple times I feel that I got a better understanding as well as it turning out a little better but I wish we had gotten to some of the other muscles.

I believe that because of Life Drawing it will influence me in my other classes and future job for many reasons. I have one semester left of classes, all studios, so I feel that life drawing will help me in these classes because I enjoy working with the figure and I hope it will help me with projects that will include figures in my work. I also feel it life drawing will help me in me future job, which I hope to be able to teacher k-12 students. I feel that it is important to understand the human figure to be able to teach it to others. I feel that what I have learned up to this point will help me teach students how to draw figures.

Contour Shell Final with Ink

After the class critique with Josh, he told us to have fun with this and experiment. I have used India before but it was once back in high school and once back at my last college in drawing I but not to this extent. I really like how it turned out but throughout this process I was afraid that I didn't do enough or that I did to much to it. I had fun and decided to add a bit of color and spatter marks to it to give it a bit more. I do feel that compared to my first shell this one has definitely better and I am happy with it.

3hr pose

I liked the fact that we spent the whole time working on this but this really did frustrated me. What really frustrated me was the feet and the face. What I didn't like about the feet was the position and the weird angle that made it awkward to draw. When it came to the face I spent about one hour trying to figure it out. I feel that this drawing came out ok, except what I mentioned before but I feel that I just need more practice.

The Hand 30 mins Each

Attempt 1

Attempt 2

Attempt 3

Attempt 4

I felt the hands were very difficult. When we learned the feet and did the long body pose I was able to do the hand. I kinda felt that today wasn't my day for drawing. i do think that Attempt 1 and 3 didn't turn out that bad but there are somethings still wrong with them. Attempt 2 just didn't want to go my way. I kept having issues with the fingers. The last attempt was just for fun, even though it did not turn out what so ever. I know for sure the thumb needs work, it was getting to the end of class and I think I was just done and over with drawing the hand at that point.

The Face

My Attempts

I found this very difficult, in which this is one thing that I really wanted to learn this semester in life drawing. I wish that we had a few more days to be able to work on the face more. Each attempt was 30 mins long but I feel that we should have spent an hour on each one because I was not able to get as far as I wanted to where I could and in more details and understand those details. It also didn't help that because I was on the field trip the day before Thanksgiving that we had to leave during this class period for our critique instead of be able to work on another drawing of the face.

I had a love/hate relationship with this shell drawing. At times I felt it was too hard to draw this large. I think in some areas my lines worked really well, but as Josh stated that there could have been a few more darker lines on the top of the shell and a little bit more variety in the front of the shell. I still enjoy though how this shell turned out and I think it turned out a lot better then the other shell drawing. I also decided to shade the background because I was not impressed with the charcoal smudges. I feel that this background does work and it is not distracting. With the last and final shell drawing I hope to have a little more fun and experiment more.

Field Trip Drawing

This is the drawing that I did in my sketch book during the field trip at the Bodies Exhibition, in which I also continued to draw on the bus. The body that I started to draw was that of a man but being on the bus I got bored and decided to change the the features into a woman. I feel that I got a lot of the muscles correct in the time that I spent on it. My favorite part of this drawing is that of the arms and the stomach muscles because they seem the most acccurate in the form.
